Your roof protects everything underneath it, so when it fails you want it fixed properly and quickly. We look after residential roofing in Bristol and Bath, from a single slipped slate on a Victorian terrace to a complete new roof on a family home, plus the flat roofs, chimneys, gutters and roof windows that go with them.
Homes across the two cities are wonderfully varied: Georgian townhouses in Clifton and Bath, Victorian terraces in Bedminster and Easton, 1930s semis in Henleaze and Brislington, and post-war homes in Filton and Knowle. Each one fails in its own way, and knowing the housing stock is half the job.
Every job starts with a proper inspection and a clear written quote. If a repair will do, that is what we recommend.
Everything your home roof might need, in one place:
Start with the problem you have: roof leak repair for damp and drips, emergency roof repair for storm damage, or roof replacement when repairs no longer make sense. For pitched roofs see slate roofing and tile roof repair. For extensions, garages and dormers, see flat roofing and our guides to EPDM rubber roofs, GRP fibreglass roofs and felt roofing.
Around the roof, we cover chimney repair, lead flashing, gutter repair, fascias and soffits, roof cleaning and VELUX roof windows. Want something greener? Ask about green roofs on extensions and garden rooms. See every option on our roofing systems page.
Most homes in Bristol and Bath fall into a handful of types, and each one points towards a different roofing approach. Georgian and Victorian houses usually suit natural slate, often Welsh slate, with lead valleys, bays and flashings. Interwar semis tend to have clay or concrete plain tiles on hipped roofs, while post-war and later homes mostly have concrete interlocking tiles. Extensions, garages and dormers almost always have flat roofs.
When one part of a roof fails, it is worth looking at the whole picture. A leak around a chimney might be the lead, the mortar or the tiles beside it. A sagging extension roof might be a tired deck rather than the covering. We inspect the roof and the loft before quoting, so you only pay for the work that will actually fix the problem.
Like-for-like repairs rarely need planning permission, but conservation areas, listed buildings and the City of Bath World Heritage Site can change that. Renovating a large part of a roof usually brings in Approved Document L, which may mean upgrading insulation and getting building control approval. Bats and nesting birds are protected by law, so roof work near eaves and soffits is planned with them in mind.
A quick check after big storms, clearing gutters once a year and dealing with slipped tiles early will add years to any roof. If you are not sure what condition your roof is in, a drone roof inspection gives you close-up photos without scaffold.
