Roofs never fail at a convenient time. A gale strips tiles off at midnight, a branch comes down through the slates, or water suddenly starts pouring through a ceiling light. When that happens you need an emergency roofer in Bristol who picks up the phone and gets there quickly.
Call 07733 236110 and tell us what is happening. We will ask a few quick questions, give you simple advice to keep your home safe in the meantime, and get a roofer to you as fast as we can.
Our first job is always to make the roof safe and watertight. That might mean temporary covers, refixing loose tiles, sealing a gap or clearing debris. Once the immediate danger has passed, we come back to carry out a permanent repair, with a written quote before any further work starts.
Emergency work is about speed, but it is also about not making things worse. We work safely, protect your home while we are there and explain exactly what we have done before we leave.
Most emergency callouts in Bristol come after high winds or heavy rain. These are the problems we see most often:
Older roofs on the Victorian terraces of Easton, Totterdown and Bedminster are especially exposed in a storm, as are the hillside streets of Clifton and Kingswood. Flat roofs on extensions across Bishopston and Horfield are another common emergency, because a small split can let a lot of water in very quickly.
If a chimney looks unstable, keep people and cars well away from it and call us straight away. Loose bricks and pots can fall without warning, and chimney repairs need proper access to be done safely.
A roofing emergency is anything that lets water into your home or business, or puts people at risk. Typical examples include tiles or slates blown off in a storm, a tree or branch through the roof, a flat roof lifted or split by wind, lead flashing torn away, a chimney that looks unstable, or water coming through ceilings or light fittings. If in doubt, call and describe what you can see.
Emergency work focuses on stopping further damage. That might mean fitting temporary covers, refixing loose tiles or slates, sealing gaps, clearing debris or making a chimney safe. Access is planned in line with the Work at Height Regulations 2005, so some situations can be dealt with from a ladder or cherry picker and others need scaffold. Once the roof is safe, we give you a written quote for the permanent repair, and you have time to consider it.
Many home and business insurance policies cover sudden storm damage, but not wear and tear. Photos taken on the day, a description of what happened and a written report from a roofer all help a claim. Keep receipts for any emergency work. See insurance roof repairs for more.
For shops, offices and industrial units, a leak can stop business. We respond to commercial emergencies across Bristol and Bath, make the roof safe and then plan permanent repairs around your operations. See commercial roofing.

Anything that lets water into your home or puts people at risk. That includes missing tiles after a storm, water coming through ceilings, a split flat roof, storm-damaged lead or a chimney that looks unsafe.
If it is safe, switch off the electrics in any wet area, put buckets under drips and move valuables away. Keep people clear of anything that might fall. Do not climb onto the roof yourself, especially in wind or rain.
Many home insurance policies cover sudden storm damage. Take photos, keep receipts and tell your insurer as soon as you can. We can provide photos and a written report to support your claim. Find out more about insurance roof work.
A temporary repair keeps the weather out until the permanent fix is done. It is not a long-term solution, so we always quote for the proper repair once the roof is safe.
It depends on the damage, the time of day and the access needed. We explain the cost before we start any work.
Yes. Storms often lift or split felt flat roofs on extensions and garages. We make the roof watertight, then advise on a repair or a new flat roof in EPDM or GRP.
Roofers can often keep working through light showers. In heavy rain, strong wind, ice or lightning, work stops for safety, and the priority becomes covering the roof temporarily to keep water out.
Not always. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, roofers must use safe access, so some emergencies can be made safe from a ladder or cherry picker and others need scaffold. If the scaffold stands on a public pavement or road, a scaffolding licence from Bristol City Council is needed first, which can take 3 to 10 days. The scaffold company normally arranges it.
In an emergency you want someone calm, quick and honest. We make your home safe first and never use the pressure of the moment to push work you do not need.
Once the roof is secure, you get time to think, a written quote for the permanent fix and photos of the damage for your records or your insurer.
